I always see people mostly on (X) saying all sorts of things about pasture and Range, some do say that some people are studying things in the University sha.

Maybe because they really don’t understand the concept and importance of pasture due to lack of knowledge about the course

Or maybe because it’s only at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta that offers Pasture and Range Management as a department in Nigeria.

Or maybe they don’t understand what livestock welfarism is all about.

On this note let’s dive small on some of the importance of Pasture and Range

Firstly what is Pasture; Pasture is an area of land covered with grasses, legumes, shrubs and forbs used for grazing livestock.

Pasture goes beyond just ordinary feed for livestock but it’s also important for human lives and the environmental ecosystem.

Pasture also serves as a medium of improving carbon dioxide emission by providing a cleaner energy source.

Pasture is also useful for landscaping and environmental beautification among others.

Range/ Rangeland refers to expansive, unfenced land covered with native vegetation that is primarily used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat.

Rangeland supports a diverse pool of ecosystem practices including grazing, wildlife habitat, recreational centre, and improves biodiversity.
