World Malaria Day 2026
“Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.”

Malaria remains one of the most significant public health challenges in Nigeria. The country continues to account for a substantial share of the global burden, with millions of cases recorded annually.

In the North-West region, the situation is particularly concerning. Recent data shows high prevalence among children, with some states reporting rates as high as 49%. Seasonal transmission, especially following the rainy period, places additional pressure on already stretched health systems.

Despite these challenges, malaria is preventable and treatable.

At Aidova Foundation, we emphasize practical, community-level actions that can reduce risk and save lives:

- Consistent use of insecticide-treated nets
- Early testing and prompt treatment at health facilities
- Environmental sanitation to eliminate mosquito breeding sites
- Increased community awareness and timely care-seeking

Progress depends on sustained collaboration between communities, health workers, and partners. Strengthening primary healthcare systems and improving access to prevention and treatment services remain critical.

On this World Malaria Day, we reaffirm the importance of collective action to reduce the burden of malaria and protect vulnerable populations across Northern Nigeria.
