The Dani tribe of Papua New Guinea has shocking marriage customs. To get married, a man must cut off a finger from his right hand as a dowry for his bride. In case of divorce, he has to amputate two fingers on his left hand. If the husband dies, the wife cuts off all her fingers as a sign of fidelity and to indicate that she will not remarry. Thus, in any circumstance, whether marriage, divorce or death, there are always fingers that are sacrificed, reflecting the deep symbolism and commitment in the traditions of this tribe.
