3. ARBOR ACRE

ARBOR ACRE :This strain evolved from the combination of Ross genetic trait and that of Cobb. Therefore, arbor acre share the characteristics of both the Ross and cobb. Their FCR is not really good at early stage but develop good fcr after 6weeks.

This breed was imported by Chi to Nigeria based on research it was discovered that they are using the grand parent stock (GPS).

However, over the years we have seen improved varieties of arbor acre strain like AA, AA+, AA+S, AA+R but currently now what we have in Nigeria is AA+.

Advantages.
Good growth rate
Wide breast
Broad carcass with tall legs.
Can cope with cold or hot weather.
High meat to bone ratio
Low mortality..... mostly after brooding stage.
Good for learner
Good for 8 to 10 weeks business.

2. COBB 500

COBB 500: This is another breed of Broiler that attain good weight at 7,8,9 weeks that's the period when they add good weight cause from 1-6 weeks they will just be growing little meat.
They grow mostly tall at 1-6 weeks, grows more feathers than ROSS 308.

They have broad chest with big carcass, better FCR after 6weeks compare ROSS 308. So because of the good FCR even after brooding stage give atleast 120g of feed per bird because they need the feed then for good weight.

Ross 308 is recognized globally as fast growing breed that will give consistent performance. Generally most farmers value the growth rate, feed efficiency, and robust performance of the Ross 308.Ross 308 is a fast-growing, feed-efficient broiler with a good meat yield.

It's crystal clear that the cost-effective production of Broiler production is for meat purposes which is directly dependent on the weigh because the weigh is what we refers to as the meat.

They grow rapidly week by week add weight day by day, at 5 weeks they spread their legs in k-shape, they don't grow tall, they grow fat mostly

Disadvantages
Susceptibility to heat
Less growth speed when compared to other breed after 6 weeks
You can manage to keep them up till 7 weeks after 7 weeks you are just wasting your money trying to feed them for them to add more weight, you will just loose, they are good for 6 weeks business
They don't like Heat,
they can manage cold environment, heat stress kills them more than CRD sef

The Ross 308 don't need rationing of food (meaning give them food always) from day old till 6 weeks, they need none stop feeding cause any feed they eat they have the highest ability to convert it to meat & Fat.
