How SQL JOINs Work (Explained with Pizza)

A JOIN combines data from tables based on a related column. Think of it like this:

You have a Customers table and an Orders table. The customer_id links them.

🍕 INNER JOIN: "Show me customers who have placed orders and their orders." (Matches only)

🍕 LEFT JOIN: "Show me ALL customers, and their orders if they have any." (All customers, plus matches)

🍕 LEFT EXCLUSIVE: "Show me customers who have NEVER placed an order." (Customers with no match) Great for finding inactive users!

🍕 FULL OUTER JOIN: "Show me EVERYONE—customers and orders—and match them where they connect."

🍕 FULL OUTER EXCLUSIVE: "Show me only orphan records: customers with no orders AND orders with no customer." Great for data cleanup!
