Long essay, Thesis, Dissertation popularly known as "project work" for final year undergraduate and graduate students is just arrant rubbish and should be discarded especially in Nigerian universities. It is a waste of students' time and resources.

98% of project works in our universities are plagiarised. Lecturers know this, that is why these works end up in dustbins or with "Iya Basira the mama akara". Unfortunately, this also present the opportunity for academics to have their palms greased.

Ideally, project work should be resourceful tool for solving economic, social, political, scientific, religious, environmental, national et al problems because in it lies, solutions and recommendations to so many societal challenges. Ironically, this has solved " Iya Basira's" problems and that of so many answering nature's call in the bush more than it has solved any society problem.

Today's technological advancement birthed the need for plagiarism detector which is mostly being used in our universities to scrutinise project works by these students and ensure its originality. Sadly, this has not helped. Students still sort their way out.

My grouse here is simple, despite the due diligence and checks put in the process to ensure originality of project works by students it end up in a trash

Project work should be trashed out of the University's curriculum.

On the Lagos State's decision to hike the school fees of the Lagos State University, the issue of affordable education has been brought to the fore again. Should education be subsidized in Nigeria or should there be a fee control over tutitons paid by students? Do have you say in the on-going debate.
