Story Time !!!

During a cabin crew interview, we asked a candidate to tell us a time she worked with a difficult colleague and how she managed the situation ? With all eyes on her, she responded: "I have never experienced any difficulty working with a colleague."

While her answer seemed straightforward, it scored her a zero and she wasn't considered for the role. Here's why it matters.

Interviews, especially ones with behavioral questions is a test for candidate's ability to navigate stress, solve problems, and think critically. A flat-out denial of any challenging experiences signals a lack of adaptability and resilience. But here's where we come in to assist you so you don't make such mistake again.

Consider this example:

Recruiter: Tell me a time where you worked with a difficult colleague and how you managed the situation."

Candidate: I haven't actually been faced with this exact situation where I have to work with a difficult colleague but in my previous role as a customer care representative, I managed a demanding client who was consistently dissatisfied with our services. I resolved the situation by actively listening to understand, showing genuine empathy, and proposing effective solutions. This approach improved our communication and further strengthened our relationship.

By steering the conversation toward a similar scenario and showcasing problem-solving prowess, the candidate have not only dodged the interview iceberg but also demonstrated ability to navigate through difficult situation and, thus a resolution.

So, the next time you're in the hot seat, remember: it's not just about the question; it's about how you navigate stress, solve problems, and think critically. Your facial expression, communication skills and body language are constantly observed during this process.
