*SHUN IMF's WARNING ON ELECTRICITY SUBSIDY - Political Scientist advices Federal Government*

By Oluwaseun SH*TTU

Nigerian government has been advised to shun the International Monetary Fund, IMF's warning over subsidy payment on electricity in the country.

A political scientist and international public relations practitioner, Dr. Daniel Aborisade gave the advice on Monday while responding to questions on Lion FM yoruba daily flagship program titled 'Oro Ile wa' meaning 'National Discourse'

The IMF recently warned the federal government to remove what it called implicit fuel and electricity subsidies.

According to a report published by the IMF, the organization told Nigeria that subsidies would guzzle three per cent of the nation's Gross Domestic Product in 2024 as against one per cent in the year before.

In his analysis, Dr. Aborisade said removal of electricity subsidy which resulted to increase in electricity tariff is not in interest of Nigerians who have be confronted with economic hardship since inception of present administration in Nigeria.

While making reference to petroleum subsidy removal and subsequent pains on the masses, Aborisade said removing subsidy on electricity would compound Nigerians pains making the situation very unfair.

According to the analyst the Federal Government should be realistic with their citizens rather than yielding to external advice aimed at inflicting more hardship on the country.

The political scientist faulted the claims of the IMF, warning the government not to subject the country to indirect slavery.

Answering questions on the organized labour protests to reject hike in electricity tariff, Aborisade ńoted that labour has right to protest, particularly when government refused to listen to them. He however adviced NLC and TUC to be careful and do everything lawfully.

While attributing failure of Nigerian refineries to work as a major set back to the Nation's economy, the PR expert noted that should government carry on with electricity tariff hke, it's resultant effect will crumble industries and businesses leading to unemployment and more crime in the country.
