CARE PROJECT 3.0
The third edition of the Clothe and Replenish Everyone (CARE) Project was successfully held on 2 May 2026 at Elebolo Community, Alakia, Ibadan, Oyo State. The initiative was designed to support vulnerable and underserved populations through the provision of free healthcare services, essential medicines, health education, food support, and access to affordable clothing and household items.
The outreach sought to address both immediate health needs and socioeconomic challenges by creating a platform where community members could access healthcare services, receive health information, and purchase essential items at highly subsidized prices.

What We Did
The outreach commenced at approximately 10:45 a.m. at the community hall and adjoining open space, providing a convenient and accessible venue for all community members. The venue was organized into dedicated sections for registration, medical screening and consultation, subsidized sales of clothes and household items, and health education and quiz activities. Community members were registered upon arrival and provided with participation slips and identification tallies to indicate the components of the program they wished to participate in. This system promoted transparency, orderliness, and efficient movement between the various service points. Registration remained open throughout the outreach to accommodate participants who arrived later in the day.

The program officially commenced with a welcome address by the Chief Executive Officer of the Blue Gate Public Health Promotion Initiative, Prof. Ademola Adelekan, who welcomed participants, acknowledged the support of community leaders, and explained the objectives and activities of the CARE Project. This was followed by an opening prayer led by a community volunteer and a goodwill message from the Community Chairman, who expressed appreciation to the Blue Gate team and encouraged residents to take full advantage of the services provided.

Improved Access to Healthcare
A key component of the outreach was the provision of free health screening and medical consultation services. Community members received screening for common health conditions and were subsequently reviewed by healthcare personnel who provided appropriate counselling and treatment. Essential medicines were distributed free of charge to beneficiaries based on their health needs. A total of 89 individuals received health screening services during the outreach. Women constituted the majority of participants, reflecting the demographic composition of the community. The strong turnout demonstrated a high level of interest in health-focused interventions and highlighted the importance of bringing healthcare services closer to underserved populations.

Access to Affordable Essential Items
The CARE Project continued its dignity-centred approach by providing community members with access to donated clothes, shoes, bags, traditional attire such as ofi and fila, and other essential items at highly subsidized prices. Items were sold for between ₦50 and ₦300, making them affordable for vulnerable households while allowing beneficiaries the freedom to choose items that best met their needs. The subsidized sales generated a total of ₦13,550, demonstrating active community participation and reinforcing the project's commitment to promoting dignity, choice, and equitable access to essential resources.

Health Education and Community Engagement
Health education remained an important component of the outreach. Community members participated in interactive discussions and a health quiz moderated by the CEO through an open-ballot system. The activity encouraged learning and active participation while creating an enjoyable atmosphere for attendees.
Participants who correctly answered quiz questions received food packs containing rice and garri as incentives. This approach not only promoted health awareness but also provided additional support to vulnerable households.

Community Impact
The CARE Project 3.0 successfully combined healthcare delivery, health education, food support, and access to affordable essential items within a single community-based intervention. By addressing both health and socioeconomic needs, the outreach contributed to improved well-being and strengthened community engagement.
The positive response from community members reaffirmed the relevance of the CARE Project model and its potential to improve access to healthcare and essential resources among vulnerable populations.

Conclusion
The outreach concluded at approximately 3:30 p.m. following the completion of medical consultations, clothes sales, and quiz activities. The successful implementation of CARE Project 3.0 further demonstrated the value of community-driven interventions in improving access to healthcare, promoting dignity, and supporting vulnerable families. The experience gained and the positive feedback received continue to strengthen the commitment of the Blue Gate Public Health Promotion Initiative to expand the reach and impact of future CARE Project outreaches across underserved communities in Oyo State.

I-DRAW HEALTH DAY

Introduction
The Integrating Drug Abuse and WASH Intervention into Sexual and Reproductive Health (I-DRAW) Project Health Day was organized as an end-of-term activity on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, to promote health awareness among students of Ikolaba High School, Ikolaba, Ibadan, Oyo State. The students had previously been trained and exposed to a series of educational activities through the I-DRAW Ambassadors, and this event served both as a reinforcement of those lessons and as an opportunity to assess the outcomes of the ambassadors’ step-down training. The program successfully combined education on drug abuse, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) with engaging social activities.

The event commenced with an opening prayer delivered by a student representative, followed by a welcome address from the school Vice Principal, who oversees the intervention within the school. This set the tone for a structured and impactful engagement.

Technical Health Talks
A series of technical sessions were conducted to deepen students’ understanding of key health issues. During the session on drug abuse, students were introduced to the definition of drug abuse, exposed to commonly abused substances such as co***ne, he**in, “colorado,” ma*****na, and “ice,” and guided through a critical discussion distinguishing myths from facts about addiction and its effects. Another session focused on consensual versus non-consensual relationships, where students learned about the meaning of consent, how to differentiate between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and practical strategies for personal safety and informed decision-making.

Interactive Quiz and Health Recap
An interactive quiz competition was organized for students from JSS1 to SS2, covering various areas of public health, including sexual and reproductive health and drug abuse. To ensure fairness and transparency, a random ballot system was used for selecting questions. A total of 20 students participated in the quiz, with six emerging as winners. Following the quiz, Blue Gate staff conducted a comprehensive recap session that addressed key topics such as puberty, sexual orientation, hygiene, sexually transmitted infections, and proper handwashing techniques. The session also included a question-and-answer segment, during which the concept of virginity was clarified as being applicable to all genders.

Presentations and Institutional Support
The program also featured presentations and expressions of institutional support. Quiz winners received items such as socks, face towels, and water bottles, which were presented by the Project Ambassadors. In recognition of their leadership and contributions to the project, the ambassadors were in turn presented with mathematical sets by school teachers on behalf of Blue Gate. As part of the WASH intervention, the CEO of Blue Gate, Prof. Ademola, donated five waste bins to class representatives to encourage proper waste disposal and improve classroom hygiene.

Social Engagement and Counseling
Social engagement formed an integral part of the day’s activities. Students participated in a variety of board and traditional games, including Ludo, Ayo Olopon, Whot, Scrabble, and Chess. A private counseling space was also made available for one-on-one counseling opportunity during the event. The event concluded with a lively 40-minute dance competition moderated by Prof. Ademola, during which participants were rewarded with light refreshments in recognition of their enthusiasm and participation.

Conclusion
The program officially ended at 1:55 pm with the distribution of refreshments to all attendees. Overall, the I-DRAW Health Day successfully achieved its objective of integrating health education with social interaction, leaving students better informed and inspired to serve as health advocates within their school community.
