Every year on 18 April, ICOMOS celebrates the International Day for Monuments and Sites, whose establishment was approved by the 22nd UNESCO General Conference in 1983.

This year's theme is Heritage for Generations

Sharing stories and the transfer of knowledge between generations is a crucial step in cultural development, characterising the human experience since time immemorial.

The International Day for Monuments and Sites 2018 is an opportunity to emphasize the importance of intergenerational exchanges when it comes to safeguarding and celebrating our heritage.

- The International Day for Monuments and Sites is an annual event of International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). The day is celebrated 18th April of every year.

The aim of the day is to encourage local communities and individual throughout the world to consider the importance of cultural heritage to their lives, identities and communities and to promote awareness of its diversity and vulnerability and the efforts required to protect and conserve it.
