PHAWI witnessed the
Report Launch on the Natural Resource Governance in the Niger-Delta held last week at Port Harcourt by SERAP with support from Ford Foundation. As a representative of my community here, l shared how we can use strategic litigation to end corruption & achieve social justice in the oil-rich region.
This Report Launch was quite timely and imperative for public interest advocacy. It's time all state actors , take action, walk the talk and ensure marginalised Communities are no more shortchanged of the benefits of Natural resources exploited from their domains.

PHAWI was among the delegates from Akwa Ibom State that participated in a Two-Day Co-Creation and Ideation Workshop on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) in Nigeria, organized by 's Advocacy Research & Documentation Centre (WARDC) Lagos, to develop state guidelines on Safe Termination Of Pregnancy (STOP).

A report on Impact of Unsafe Abortion on Women and Girls in Lagos State was launched, which focused on Human Rights and Reproductive Health, which contributes to high mortality and morbidity rates in the country.

The report explored the restrictive laws, entrenched social norms and limited access to healthcare which creates an environment where unsafe abortions are prevalent.

"Ask the woman question" approach was adopted, focusing on women's lived realities, bodily autonomy and cultural barriers.

Myths: Abortion is used as a form of birth control
Reality: Abortion is not. Most women seek abortion due to failure of contraceptive or unintended pregnancies.

Several other Myths were addressed.

Reproductive Rights are fundamental human rights that should be accessible to all women and girls.
