ALLEGATIONS OF ELECTORAL VIOLENCE AND INTIMIDATION TRAIL APGA PRIMARIES IN AGUATA LGA, ANAMBRA STATE
Aguata, Anambra State – Stakeholders and eyewitnesses in Aguata Local Government Area have raised serious concerns over alleged acts of violence and intimidation that marred the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA primary elections held on May 23, 2026.
According to multiple accounts from party members, Dr. Godwin Nnadozie, Special Adviser to Governor Charles Soludo on Medicals and Pharmaceuticals, was allegedly observed moving from ward to ward in the company of armed thugs and members of an unconventional security group identified as “Udogachi”.
The affected areas reportedly include Ezinifite Ward 1, Ezinifite Ward 2, Umuchu, Igboukwu, Achina, Uga, and other wards within Aguata LGA.
Witnesses allege that the group threatened and harassed voters, physically assaulted some party members, and seized or damaged mobile phones belonging to individuals who attempted to record the proceedings in the listed locations. The incidents reportedly disrupted voting and prevented several eligible party members from exercising their right to vote.
Many party members who participated in the process have stated that the candidate they massively turned out to vote for was Hon. Afam Ezenwafor “Afamation”, an aspirant in the primaries. Based on witness accounts, many believe the outcome would have been different without the reported threats and violence, and that Hon. Ezenwafor was deprived of his victory.
The allegations have sparked calls for accountability and an immediate investigation by relevant authorities, including the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and the leadership of APGA.
Public office holders are bound by law and the Code of Conduct for Public Officers to uphold democratic principles and maintain public order. The events of May 23, 2026 raise questions about the conduct expected of government appointees.
Stakeholders affected by the process, including the victimized aspirant, are calling on the Leadership of APGA and the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, who is the National Leader of APGA, to look into the matter and take appropriate disciplinary action against Dr. Nnadozie for actions that truncated the electoral process and which amount to conduct capable of breaching public order and party discipline.
