A choking victim might require the Heimlich manoeuvre for complete blockage of the airway. However, you will have to keep your composure long enough to find out if that is the case.

Often, a choking victim will not be able to speak and will turn blue. On the other hand, if the victim can talk, it is a partial blockage, which can likely be resolved with coughing.
