The Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunisation and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has presented the findings of a post-evaluation survey conducted across five local government areas in Delta State, highlighting persistent gender and human rights challenges

The ACOMIN delegation, led by the state chairman Mr Gregory Sifo, earlier today 17th June 2026, visited the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency to share the outcomes of the survey, which was concluded in December 2025.

Speaking during the meeting, the programme Manager, Mrs Nnenna Ihua explained that the research was designed to measure awareness of gender and human rights programmes across the country, with Delta State serving as one of the focal states.

According to her, the survey revealed two major findings:
High awareness level of gender and human rights issues among community members. However, incidents of violations remain significantly underreported due to fear of stigmatization
Limited access to legal and psychosocial support services for survivors, with service coverage remaining below 40 per cent, underscoring the need for urgent prioritization of intervention

Mrs. Ihua commended the Permanent Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Yinkore A. Paul, for the support provided through Primary Health Care Centres, noting that the facilities often serve as the first point of contact and care for victims of gender-based violence and human rights abuses.

She expressed optimism that assistance and support for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) and gender human rights (GHR) violations would continue to receive priority attention.

In his response, Dr. Yinkore thanked the ACOMIN team for the visit and acknowledged the challenges identified by the survey, particularly weak enforcement of laws against perpetrators and the absence of a comprehensive survivor protection system.

He reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with ACOMIN and pledged continued collaboration aimed at strengthening support services for vulnerable groups across the state.

The meeting was attended by:

Dr Yinkore Paul Permanent Secretary, DSPHCDA

Dr Anibor Mathew, DSMA/I, DSPHCDA

Mr Gregory Sifo, ACOMIN State Chairman

Mrs Nnenna Ihua, Programme Manager, ACOMIN

Other stakeholders and officials.

Yesterday, 3rd June 2026, a team from UNICEF paid a courtesy visit to the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency.(DSPHCDA)

The delegation was led by Dr. Anyanyo Ifeyinwa.
The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between UNICEF and the DSPHCDA, as well as introducing the newly assigned UNICEF field office delegates from Enugu who will be working closely with the Agency.

During the meeting, the team expressed their commitment to fostering a productive partnership and requested that the Agency compile a comprehensive report highlighting its immunisation programmes, key challenges, and recommendations for presentation to the Chief of the UNICEF Enugu Field Office. This, they noted, would help identify strategic areas of support and collaboration.

The delegation further informed the Permanent Secretary DSPHCDA, Dr Yinkore A Paul that the Chief of the UNICEF Enugu Field Office will pay an official visit to the Agency soon to gain deeper insights into its operations and explore additional opportunities for partnership and support.
