Holy Spirit month
No time is more appropriate than now to talk about the Holy Spirit and his enablement in fulfilling the Dominion Mandate.
In the Old Covenant, the Holy Spirit came upon people for specific assignments. Priests, Kings or Judges were anointed to be equipped for the discharge their assignments. So the Holy Spirit came "on them."
In our time, the Holy Spirit dwells within us. We are carriers of his power and presence. Hallelujah!
John the baptist made a distinction between his water baptism and Jesus baptism with fire. Matthew 3:11,Luke 3:16.
Jesus was the first to be baptized with the Holy Spirit in the New Covenant Luke 3:22.
Jesus called the experience, the promise of the father. Luke 24:49, Mk 16
In Acts 2:1-13 his disciples received the empowering experience, that turned them from lily livered men to audacious and fearless disciples and apostles.
Peter who chickened out when a young lady identified him as a Jesus disciple accused them of murdering the Prince of life and that, to their faces. They were shocked at his boldness and in a somewhat dark humor dismissed them as "drunken men."
Later on they described them as people who had turned the world upside down. Or was it rightside up?
In Antioch they first called them Christians on identifying their Christlike lifestyles.
By the grace of God this month we shall be focusing on the Holy Spirit and his impact on the early Church. Let us for a brief moment look at some of the effects of the power of the Holy Spirit on the early disciples.
1. They were empowered for Christian life and service .
2.The Holy Spirit imparted unusual boldness into them.
3. Apostle Peter preached with tremendous power and conviction that three thousand people were converted same day. The number continued to increase day to day.
4. The Gentile world received the gospel and the Holy Spirit when Cornelius and his household were converted and filled with the Holy Spirit. Acts 10:39-46
5. The people of Ephesus were converted and filled with the Spirit and gave up what was called 'curious' or in modern terms magical arts. Acts 19:1-19.
6. The miraculous was common in their outings and gatherings.Acts 3:2-7, Act 19:11-12
Certainly , we cannot talk about dominion without the wonder working power of the Holy Spirit.
Apart from the boldness to preach, the gifts of the Holy Spirit were commonly manifested in the early Church. 1Cor.12:1-12.
Apostle Paul said the gifts were for our profit; in other words, to help us live the Christian life.
Let me assure you that God by his Spirit, will fill our hearts to overflowing this year beginning this month.
Don't come to church this year with a 'cup'
come with a 'tank' and God will fill it for you, your household and to whomsoever you bring to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. It's truly our year of dominion. We won't just talk about it or preach it, but we will live it out in all spheres of human endeavors.
