Maguire starting ahead of Leny Yoro was based on experience and his ability to handle pressure in big matches, a genius decision from Amorim. Yoro has been excellent, no doubt.

Benching Sesko — Amorim knew that, no matter how tall Sesko is, Van Dijk and Konaté would still bully him. So he shifted the game from aerial duels to ground battles by using players like Mount and Cunha, who are strong pressers and better in ground duels. Another smart move.

Early substitution of Amad and Casemiro — We all remember Casemiro’s red card against Chelsea after getting an early yellow and then another before halftime. You can’t risk keeping two players with yellow cards in a high-pressure match, especially with Amad marking Gakpo, a situation that could easily lead to a foul.

Keeping Cunha on for the full ninety minutes, Amorim knew Cunha is that one crazy guy who can hold the ball, create space for other players, win plenty of fouls, and play mind games with the opponents.

If we keep winning games like this, say five or six in a row then you can judge Amorim if he doesn’t rotate players. But this was not the time to gamble or hand out minutes when the team is still finding balance.
