*PRESBYOPIA*

Pesbyopia, also referred to as old sight, is the gradual loss of the flexibility of the eye's that enables it change focus to see things that are near. Presbyopia is an age related physiological change that to starts from around age 35 and gets more significant about age 40, it gets progressively worse with increasing age.

*PTERYGIUM*

Pterygium is a degenerative growth that starts on the clear tissue of the eye (the conjunctival) and spreads to the transparent tissue covering the dark part of the eyes ( the cornea).

Pterygium is caused primarily by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun, made worse by harsh environmental conditions such as chronic dryness.

Treatment/Management of pterygium?

Preventing Pterygium is the best form of treatment. It starts by using sunshades that provides UV protection. Unnecessary exposure of the eyes to harsh weather conditions should be controlled too as it cause pterygium growth or a regrowth of earlier excised pterygium.
Surgically excision remains the only treatment that can remove a pterygium.

PS: Pterygium may not be considered a serious eye condition. You may not even have need treatment. However, an inflamed Pterygium would require treatment.

Please call your eye doctor when your Pterygium becomes symptomatic. Mismanagement especially with post surgical cases can lead to visual impairment.

ALLERGIES: Allergic condition are caused by inflammation of the eye surface when the immune system overreacts to allergens such as pollen,grass or weeds.

DRY EYES: A Condition that occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears to moisten the eyes or the tears evaporate too quickly, because the quality of tears is compromised. Dry and tired eyes can also be caused by lack of sleep,too much use digital devices,poor lighting, exposure to environmental conditions,such as dry weather,smoke or wind.

_CONTACT LENS WEAR_ Contact lenses can limit the amount of oxygen getting into the eyes.
Eyes starved of oxygen gets easily inflamed and infected. That red eyes might not just be ordinary,see your eye doctor for counselling and/ or treatment.
