On this international women’s day (IWD), I want to join the rest of the world to celebrate the contributions of women in society. A day like today does not offer a solitary moment for celebrating women, rather it presents a moment for reflection on how much progress we have made in embracing equity where women are concerned. Women have historically been treated less equitably than men. In a few societies around the World where progress has been made in closing the equity-gap between men and women, work remains to be done. Many societies continue to grapple with appalling records of inequities between men andwomen. To shine the spotlight on these instances of inequities, the IWD becomes a day for reflection as it is a time to celebrate milestones achieved.

In the context of the legal profession, we have much to celebrate about the contributions of women to law and society in Nigeria and beyond. Women are breaching boundaries, breaking down barriers and glass ceilings all over the place, and this is pleasing to see. We celebrate these accomplishments, whilst inviting stakeholders in the legal profession to consider ways to advance the cause of women by closing persisting equity-gaps in the legal profession.

Women have played (and continue to play) a pivotal role in our success story at Marsfield LP. Special mention must be made of our Head of Chambers (Mrs Deborah Okereke ); our Lagos Associate (Ms Precious Chukwuka ) our Practice Manager (Ms Esther Nicolas ) our Digital and Communications personnel (Ms REBECCA ISI IMAFIDON ); and our Office Administration personnel (Ms Blessing Adie). Each ofthese women work tirelessly to sustain the success story of Marsfield LP. On this IWD, we celebrate them and all women around the World.
