Nineteen years ago, my life changed.
I began losing my sight as a child—moving from hospitals to churches to traditional homes with my parents, searching for answers. Eventually, I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa.
Because inclusive education was not available, I had to leave my home, my family, and everything familiar just to access schooling. I was admitted into a blind school—not by choice, but because there were no other options.
Today, this is still the reality for millions of Nigerians with disabilities—forced to travel far, separated from their families, just to learn and live.
This is why our Learning and Rehabilitation Center exists.
We are here to bridge that gap—providing skills like braille reading and writing, orientation and mobility, assistive technology, and offering guidance, mentorship, and support for individuals and families.

It was truly an honor and a privilege to be part of the 10th Anniversary Press Conference of She Writes Woman—a decade of transforming lives, breaking silence, and building safe spaces for mental health.
From being a beneficiary to now standing as a champion for mental health and psychosocial disabilities, this journey is deeply personal. She Writes Woman, under the inspiring leadership of Hauwa Ojeifo, has created more than just a platform—it is a safe space that gives voice, strength, and confidence to people living with mental health conditions and psychosocial disabilities.
Through this initiative, many—myself included—have had access to mental health support and services that would otherwise be unaffordable, at no cost. That impact cannot be overstated.
As the Executive Director of Sauri Growth Initiative for Women and Youth with Disabilities, I remain committed to advancing inclusive mental health advocacy and ensuring that no one is left behind.
If you or someone you know is navigating mental health challenges, I strongly encourage you to connect with She Writes Woman. Support exists, and you deserve it.
Here’s to 10 years of impact—and many more years of hope, healing, and inclusion.

Under our Inclusive Digital Literacy for Young Persons with Disabilities project, we paid a strategic advocacy visit to the Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Plateau State Chapter.
During the engagement, we had meaningful discussions on how digital literacy initiatives can be more inclusive and accessible for young persons with disabilities across the state. We also explored practical ways to strengthen their participation, representation, and integration within the disability structure and broader development processes.
We emphasized the importance of ensuring that young persons with disabilities are not just beneficiaries, but active participants and leaders in digital and civic spaces.
We are encouraged by the Chairman’s strong commitment to amplifying the voices of young persons with disabilities and supporting inclusive digital literacy training and participation across Plateau State.
This marks an important step toward building a more inclusive and digitally empowered future.
Nothing about us, without us.

this center is a vision—to create a space where persons with disabilities can rebuild, learn, and thrive.
We have seen how difficult it can be for someone who suddenly becomes blind or acquires a disability to adjust to everyday life. For many, it means starting over.
This is why we established our Learning and Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities—a space designed to support independence, confidence, and a return to everyday life and education.
