That said, how about you take some time off of your busy schedule and ask your kids about how they feel about the year-end and what they’re excited about for the upcoming 2023.

1. ‘What was the best and the worst thing that happened to you this year?’
This is a very good way to start the conversation. Ask them about what they loved and disliked this year. Help them reflect on the many things that happened in their lives and to revisit the best and worst moments, which may help them realize what they love and what mistakes they should avoid.

2. ‘What was your greatest learning?’
Asking this question helps your child realise their achievements, the mistakes they made and/or the lessons they learnt from the mistakes. It reminds them of what they can do better, how capable they are and helps them realise their real potential.

It is important to ask your child this question. Not because you want to make them feel guilty or ashamed of the wrongs they did, but because you want to teach them responsibility. You want to give them a chance to realize their mistake and to not commit it again.

4. ‘What was the most difficult thing you did this year?’
As parents, you must try your best to boost your child’s confidence and self esteem. Make sure you help your child realise their own potential. By asking them about the most difficult and the hardest thing they achieved, you’re helping them learn how capable they are of overcoming their own fears.

5. ‘What will you do differently in the next year?’
Before the year ends, help your child plan ahead. This question can get them kick-started. Besides helping them decide on what they want to achieve next year
