Tinubu Approves ₦5.4trn Security Budget, ₦4trn Power Sector Bond, Renames Kaduna Institute after Yar'Adua
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today marked the 2026 Democracy Day with a sweeping national address, announcing a record-breaking 5.41 trillion naira allocation to defence and security in the 2026 budget to combat terrorism and recent student abductions in Oyo and Borno States.
Speaking on the milestone of 27 unbroken years of civilian rule, the President declared that democracy without security cannot stand, revealing that over 50,000 new police officers are being recruited while issuing a final surrender ultimatum to bandits and kidnappers.
On the economic and infrastructure front, the President defended his ongoing fiscal reforms and authorized the Presidential Power Sector Task Force to raise a 4 trillion naira bond to clear verified legacy debts and bridge the nation's severe metering deficit.
Concluding his broadcast ahead of the upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States, the President charged the youth to remain in the country to build, code, and innovate, stating that every great nation was built by those who stayed to solve problems rather than those who abandoned ship.
