Rivers group heads to court over Chinda's governorship candidacy

The Rivers Emancipation Movement says it will head to court to challenge the legality of the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Hon. Kingsley Chinda.

Spokesperson of the group, Zoe Solomon Tamunotonye, said the planned legal action is based on concerns over Chinda’s current position as the Minority Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the House of Representatives.

Tamunotonye said the group would seek judicial interpretation in the interest of democratic accountability and the rule of law.

He also vowed that the Rivers Emancipation Movement would continue to explore lawful and democratic processes in addressing political developments in the state.

With this, Chinda faces the second legal hurdle against his APC ticket as an Abuja-based Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, had approached a Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to nullify the ticket.
