2012 BMW 328i – N55 EWG Swap

What started life as an N20-powered 328i is now running a complete N55 EWG drivetrain from a 2015 BMW M235i.

We sourced and installed:

The factory N55 HPFP becomes a limitation once you start pushing boost and torque. By retrofitting the newer B58TU HPFP, we were able to increase fuel delivery capacity, eliminate fuel pressure concerns, and safely extract more power from the setup.

Overall improvements in Throttle response & Power.

For a naturally aspirated SUV that’s nearly two decades old, these are respectable numbers. The dyno suggests the engine is slightly down on power compared to factory figures, which isn’t surprising given the vehicle’s age and condition.

During inspection, we found the car requires:
β€’ Top Overhaul
β€’ Long Shaft Bushing Replacement

Before chasing more power, the priority is restoring the engine’s mechanical health. Once that’s sorted, we’ll have a better idea of how much performance is left in this 4.8L V8. πŸ”§πŸ

With the supporting hardware installed, the N20 responds extremely well to tuning. The upgraded intercooler helps keep IATs under control, while the charge pipe and boost pipe eliminate one of the most common weak points on tuned N20s.
