Were companies consider that their commitment and the ‘giving back’ or corporate responsibility ends with adopting and adapting SUSTAINABILITY, it is time for them to up their game further!
Companies around the globe had sustainability as a goal for their eco-friendliness. But there is something more progressive concept that is being brewed! And this is Regeneration or regenerative (in its adjective form), a concept that aims at ‘restoring’ in contrast to ‘maintaining’ the environment- a concept that is associated with sustainability.

So what is Regeneration?
To set the concept clear, sustainability and regenerative are not same but share many similarities. Sustainability is a part of regenerative system but cannot be termed as same because sustainability practices aims at reducing damage but not revitalizing it.

To simplify the concept, regeneration is revitalization – be it the soil, water or the environment. The term has been closely associated in agriculture. Regenerative practices work to increase biodiversity, enrich soils, and capture carbon. These techniques don’t just do less harm – they actively restore the ecosystem to sustain itself and return to natural states.

Regenerative agriculture uses a holistic framework that aims to continuously renew the land and improve the overall environment. This system of farming principles and practices increases biodiversity, enriches soils, improves watersheds, and enhances ecosystem services.

Reversing Climate Change

One of the core causes of climatic change is the presence of carbon in the atmosphere. After decades of development, it is unfair to blame industrialization alone. Industrialization was required, for it is which has developed the modern economy. Unfortunately, the result was carbon in form of smoke from factories, transportation, mining, coupled, with deforestation and all forms of pollution. (But the associations or alliances that now deplore industrialization, should concentrate on revitalizing the sustainability movement that they frequently boast.)

So how did carbon actually reach the atmosphere, while it should be sent to where it belongs? Under the ground! Regenerative agriculture processes capture carbon in the soil, reversing current global trends of atmospheric accumulation.

One of the sustainability concepts - Net Zero is all about conserving water, reducing energy use, and eliminating solid waste to improve the environment, save money, and help communities become more sustainable and resilient. The goal of Regenerative process is not just to cut down on the depletion of resources, but to actually restore lands, increase productivity, and improve the environment through better processes of revitalizing the environment.

The concept of Regeneration is holistic in nature. The beauty of the regeneration concept is futuristic, in the sense, that it considers humans as part of the ecosystem and not just as users.
Companies should consider that ‘Regeneration’ will override sustainability! This should not be a cause for alarm for companies, but rather a wake up call to up their responsibility!
