At CrystalAir, we believe in transparent, honest engineering assessments. During a recent free site visit, a client asked us to inspect their factory cooling system because the production floor was getting unbearably hot. Naturally, they suspected their old Hitachi chiller was finally giving out.

Here is what we actually found on-site:

1️⃣ The Chiller is a Survivor: This unit hasn’t been serviced in over 10 years, and 1 out of its 3 compressors has been dead for a long time. However, through our preliminary system checks, we found that the remaining compressors are STILL functioning within acceptable performance limits and supplying water to the existing Fan Coil Units (FCU) which are able to discharge air at around 18°C.

2️⃣ The Real Culprit is the Heat Load: The factory has added new heat-generating production machinery. Combined with Malaysia's increasingly hot weather, the existing FCUs are simply maxed out. The chiller is doing its job, but the current distribution system cannot handle the new thermal load.

3️⃣ The Ideal Solution: The correct engineering approach would be to do a major service to restore the chiller back to 100% capacity, and then add new FCUs to tackle the extra ambient heat.

4️⃣ The Business Reality: The client is currently facing budget constraints. Because we confirmed the chiller is still capable of supplying the current FCUs, they made an informed business decision to hold off on the upgrades for now.

Our Philosophy: We don't use aggressive sales tactics, and we don't push for expensive chiller replacements when it isn't the root cause of the problem. We give our clients the straight facts, the ideal technical solution, and respect their financial realities.

(Disclaimer: While this specific chiller is surviving, skipping scheduled maintenance always leads to massive drops in efficiency, high electricity bills, and eventual total system failure! Don't wait 10 years to service your equipment!)

Whenever we talk about the forced airflow (using fan blades to push the air to flow), it always come with a trade-off of noise. The stronger airflow, the louder noise it produces.

This is the reason why the exhaust fan motor for commercial kitchen will always installed outside of the building whenever possible. However, for certain places (etc: Shoplot in service apartment, mall, etc), the tenant only allowed to have the exhaust motor install inside the premises which certainly create annoying noise issue for both the kitchen staff and customer as well!

Hence, to overcome this problem, it is necessary to have single/ a pair of silencer in-place to reduce the noise effectively and allow kitchen staff to have a comfortable working environment!
