This year’s ASEAN IPA 2026 theme, “Advancing Together: Legal Practice and IP Protection in the Age of AI”, reflects how artificial intelligence continues to reshape the intellectual property landscape.

We were honoured to gain practical insights from world-renowned IP experts, particularly on how legal frameworks are evolving to address the growing intersection between technology and intellectual property. The discussions were timely and relevant, especially in light of increasing regional and cross-border considerations in IP protection.

The GVCO IP team also had the pleasure of engaging with fellow practitioners from across the region, as well as catching up with valuable partners and friends. It was a meaningful exchange of perspectives on the latest developments in IP practice, and we look forward to continued collaboration within the IP community.

Yesterday, we were privileged to participate in an engagement session organised by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia, themed “𝑰𝑷 𝑽𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒆𝒓 𝑳𝒆𝒕’𝒔 𝑳𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆”, held during the 𝗜𝗣 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 (𝗜𝗣-𝗖𝗫) 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

The session brought together a focused group of industry stakeholders, including IP valuers, financial institutions, bankers, and subject matter experts, to exchange perspectives on the evolving landscape of IP valuation and IP-backed financing.

IP financing is an important enabler for SMEs, helping businesses unlock the value of their intangible assets and strengthen their access to funding. Beyond protection and compliance, IP valuation provides credible recognition of intangible value, supporting sustainability, strategic decision-making, financial reporting, and broader business value realisation.
