Corporate agriculture’s increasing dependency on fossil fuels and toxic pesticides is harming the people and the planet.

Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in the Context of Climate Change Elisa Morgera has released a report on transforming food systems. She recommends the decarbonization, defossilization, and detoxification of our highly fossil fuel and toxic chemical-dependent food production. This, in order to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

The report affirms our call for the global phaseout of Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) and the urgent need for a just transition to agroecology. Morgera recommends holding corporations that are complicit and actively participating in the expansion of the fossil fuel-based economy accountable. Likewise, supporting urban communities and localized food systems such as indigenous peoples’ and peasants’ agroecology must be placed as an utmost priority for governments around the world.

Swipe through the slides to read some of the report’s important points on the toxic ties between fossil fuels and corporate agriculture, and how our health and climate are continuously harmed by this system.

🌱 Agroecology: adapting to the climate crisis 🌍

The UN’s Global Goal on Adaptation is about resilience and agroecology is a climate adaptation solution.

By protecting farmers, food systems, and ecosystems, agroecology strengthens communities against droughts, floods, and crop failures. It improves nutrition, safeguards biodiversity, and builds climate‑resilient livelihoods.

It’s time to embed people‑led, ecological farming into global adaptation goals. ✊🌾
