Every May 20th since 2005, Miri transforms into a vibrant nexus of cultural and ecological celebration, honoring its transformation into a city with an annual event known as Miri City Day. This day not only commemorates Miri's ascension as the first non-state-capital in Malaysia to achieve city status but also showcases its unique cultural and economic contributions to the nation.
The 2024 celebrations mark the 19th anniversary of this milestone. This festival reflects the collective aim of all community sectors to promote Miri as a 'green, smart, and more liveable international resort city'.
This approach is not just about celebrating past achievements but also about actively shaping a sustainable future. This year, we have one goal. To remind everyone about this beautiful day, “520”, a day where all Mirians should come together, celebrate and be proud of where we call home, Miri.
