Beyond The Diagnosis #40: An Ignored Breast Lump That Became Breast Cancer - BFM 89.9 02/07/2026

An ignored breast lump became breast cancer.

For 10 years, Juliet was told there was nothing to worry about the lump in her breast assuming it was probably nothing. Even when she asked for a mammogram at the age of 38, she was informed that the Malaysian screening guideline recommended mammograms for women aged 40 and above. She was never offered the option of having one done privately.

Years later, that same lump was diagnosed as triple negative breast cancer, one of the most aggressive types of breast cancer, which is more commonly seen in younger women.

Her story reminds us that you know your body better than anyone else. If you notice a breast lump or any unusual change do not ignore it simply because you are told it is “nothing wrong.”

💗 If you notice a breast lump or any unusual change:
• Seek a second opinion if your concerns are dismissed.
• A breast lump should never be ignored.
• If you’re 40 and above, get a mammogram.
• If you’re younger, ask about a breast ultrasound or other appropriate investigations. Don’t assume you’re “too young” for breast cancer.

One of the most touching moments in Juliet’s journey was how strangers in the waiting room became friends. In difficult times, peer support reminds us that we are never alone. Sometimes, the greatest source of strength comes from people who truly understand what we are going through.

Meet Juliet 💖

Juliet is in the middle of one of the toughest battles of her life — undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer.
Along this journey, she is facing something many women fear… losing her hair.

But Juliet is not alone.

In a powerful act of love and solidarity, her friend chose to shave her head too — standing beside her, showing that this journey does not have to be faced in isolation. What could have been a moment of loss became a moment of strength, courage, and unwavering friendship.

This is what our campaign is about.

Not just shaving heads —
but standing shoulder to shoulder with every woman fighting breast cancer.
Reminding them that they are seen, supported, and never alone.

Every donation you make helps us:
