Japan Flu Outbreak — What Travellers Should Know 🇯🇵🚨

• Japan’s flu cases are rising rapidly.
• In the week ending Nov 16, over 145,526 flu patients were reported across more than 3,000 medical institutions.
• Average: 37.73 patients per clinic — well above the national warning level of 30.

• 24 prefectures have crossed the alert threshold; the surveillance map is almost entirely red.
• Tokyo is spreading fast with 44.75 patients per clinic.
• Some regions are extremely high:
Miyagi (80), Saitama (70), Fukushima (58), Gunma (52), Chiba (53), Hokkaido (44).

• Flu-related hospitalizations jumped to 1,466 cases this week (from 888).
• Most cases involve young children, seniors, or school clusters.
• 86% of detected viruses are A/H3N2, a highly transmissible strain.

• Experts warn the peak may come in December, but could extend into the New Year due to colder weather and heavy travel movements.

A New Era of Hope for Epilepsy Patients in Sarawak! 🌟

Heartiest congratulations to the Department of Neurosurgery, Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on achieving a historic medical milestone — performing the first vagus nerve stimulation and anterior temporal lobectomy surgery for medically refractory epilepsy in East Malaysia and Borneo!

This remarkable achievement means Sarawakians no longer need to travel to Kuala Lumpur for such advanced procedures, a proud step forward for healthcare in our state. 💪

Kudos to the dedicated multidisciplinary SGH team and their collaborators from University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for making this possible through expertise, teamwork, and commitment to patient care. 🙌

Traditional treatments such as Jamu, Chinese herbs, or Malay massage have been practiced for centuries and continue to enjoy strong public trust. However, there are cases where patients suffer complications because these treatments lack scientific validation.

In Malaysia, private hospital treatment can cost tens of thousands of ringgit for a single procedure. Some families stretch their finances to afford high premiums, while others cannot afford insurance at all.

If the public health system becomes increasingly congested, will insurance turn into a basic necessity, or remain a luxury for the few? Should the government expand basic coverage for all citizens, or let the market decide?
