Jamu simply means 'ubat' or medicine or remedy. It is the combination of the old Javanese words Jampi and Usada-a holistic healing of the inner and outer dimension of the body using natural therapy, spiritual prayers and energy balancing. Heavily influenced by Ayurveda, the earliest record of Jamu making was found carved on the bas-reliefs of Borobudur which depicted many scenes on daily life in ancient 8th century Java.
