Ascension Innovation Sdn Bhd Formalises Collaboration with Universiti Malaya to Advance AI-Driven Preventive Healthcare

Kuala Lumpur, 9 April 2026 — Ascension Innovation Sdn Bhd today signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Universiti Malaya, through its National Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence for Research & Learning (NOCERAL), Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, to explore a strategic collaboration in developing an:

AI-Powered Early Risk Prediction and Preventive Management System for Musculoskeletal Diseases and Related Complications.

The collaboration brings together Universiti Malaya’s clinical and research expertise with Ascension Innovation’s digital health and artificial intelligence capabilities, with a shared goal of advancing early detection, preventive care, and scalable healthcare solutions.

The LOI was signed by Dr Atiqah Ab Aziz, Senior Research Officer at Universiti Malaya, and Andrew Teng, Founder & CEO of Ascension Innovation Sdn Bhd, in the presence of clinicians and researchers working at the intersection of AI and healthcare, including ongoing work in diabetic wound care and osteomyelitis.

Highlighting the importance of innovation in today’s healthcare landscape, Dr Atiqah noted that research and clinical advancements must increasingly deliver meaningful impact within real-world resource constraints — reinforcing the need for solutions that are not only effective, but also scalable and sustainable.

“This marks an important step towards bridging clinical research with real-world deployment,” said Andrew Teng. “Our focus is not only on developing innovative solutions, but on ensuring they are scalable, accessible, and capable of making meaningful impact in everyday healthcare settings.”

This collaboration reflects a broader shift in healthcare — from reactive treatment to proactive, data-driven prevention — and highlights the growing importance of bridging clinical research with real-world deployment through scalable digital solutions.

By combining research insights with platform-driven ex*****on, the collaboration aims to accelerate the translation of innovation into real-world healthcare impact.

The LOI sets the foundation for further discussions on pilot implementations, joint research initiatives, and potential pathways for commercialisation.

As Malaysia continues to strengthen its digital health ecosystem, collaborations such as this highlight the importance of partnerships between academia and technology innovators in shaping the future of healthcare.

As a recognised partner, we are now able to support eligible Micro Businesses in applying for a 50% matching grant, up to a maximum of RM5,000, to adopt digital solutions that boost productivity and competitiveness.

🎯 Eligible Micro Businesses include those that meet the following criteria:
• At least 60% Malaysian-owned
• Registered with SSM or hold a valid business license from local authorities (also open to Cooperatives registered with SKM)
• Have been operating for at least 6 months
• Have an annual turnover exceeding RM50,000 but not more than RM300,000,
• OR have 5 employees or fewer
