One Bite at a Time

Tonight I had an amazing dinner: pan-seared scallops in a bacon cheese sauce and a crab tomato cream fettuccine. The textural contrast between the crisp, thinly sliced bacon and the plump, succulent scallops was fantastic, and the tender broccoli florets were perfect for soaking up every drop of that delicious sauce.

I've had the fettuccine many times before, and it never disappoints. The balance is perfect: the fresh, oceanic taste of crab and the delightful tang of tomato are brought together in a rich, heavy cream sauce.

Every part of the meal was great, from the iced latte and assorted breads with olive oil and balsamic, right down to the vanilla ice cream. The dessert came with a rather strong shot of Bénédictine liqueur, ending the dinner on a pleasant, tipsy note. This is an incredible and unassuming restaurant, and I will definitely keep coming back.

A special chashu garlic tonkatsu ramen and gyōza for lunch. To clarify, this is from Ramen Hitoyoshi at Palo 101 but I couldn't find the location to check-in, possibly because the business isn't registered on Facebook. Broth is rather flavourful and even on "normal" preference could be a little much for most people, but I quite enjoyed it. Chashu is outstanding. I went for the "hard" option for the noodles and I think having a little bite to it is ideal, seeing as I went for the thinner noodle option. Gyōza is also not too bad, not not very remarkable. It's incredibly easy to find a parking for an early lunch, but do note that you'll be charged a small parking fee. All in all the food reminds me a lot of Japan, and definitely worth revisiting to try out some other menu items.

Coffee break with a dirty milk coffee. Considering the amount of good coffees I've had in the past, I'm properly taken aback by how decent this is. Some dried hay aroma on the nose and slight astringent aftertaste aside, this is actually rather pleasant.
