RayDar Rendezvous

While we were on our quest to search for durian, we came across this area (across the road from where we wanted to purchase durian) where there were many tables filled with people. And there was just ‘small’ hakwerish setup that seemed to be supplying all the plates on the tables. We were intrigued – plus, the unmistakable smell and sound of a wok at work compelled us to stop and give this a try.

They only serve noodles (as far as we know – some of the items aren’t exactly on a menu for us to confirm). Char koay teow, yee mee and more of the ‘basah’ sort of noodles are served here. It definitely seems like an eventful hangout spot after the usual dinner hours.

Durian season has been slowing down for weeks - it is no different on Penang (though there still are some states in Malaysia where you can get your hands on this spiky fruit). Among the areas in Penang is Balik Pulau. There's a 'cafe' that's called 2 Acres Cafe and it is exactly the kind of place people would visit for a bit of relaxation; cue lots of trees and a fish pond right in the front.

If you are heading here for durian, you might wanna call and check if they still carry the variety you're looking for.

Now, there isn't much to add on to the durian posts as this is still within the same area - and frankly, we've only been purchasing a select few as not every durian is to our liking. Tomorrow though, tomorrow we shall head up into the hills of Penang where there still are some durians to be purchased.

And we're smack in the middle of durian season now! Hurrah for some and not for the rest that will stuck enduring all the durian breaths that they will have to hang around with. We're currently in Peninsular Malaysia and we will throw some places with the king of fruits into the spotlight for those that do want to indulge. Stay tuned!
