Malaysia’s community-led approach to public housing takes the global stage at World Urban Forum 13

From Roof to Resilience: A Social Assessment of Malaysia’s Public Housing was launched at the Malaysia Pavilion during the World Urban Forum 2026 in Baku, Azerbaijan, bringing Malaysia’s public housing experience into wider global conversations on housing, liveability and urban resilience.

The publication was launched by YB Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government Malaysia and President of the United Nations Habitat Assembly, in line with the forum’s theme, Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities. We are grateful for the support of YB Minister and partners in bringing this important conversation on public housing resilience to the global stage.

Drawing from Think City’s Kita-untuk-Kita (K2K) programme, the report brings together lessons and insights from communities across the Klang Valley, where more than 30,000 residents across 10 public housing communities have shown that lasting transformation is built not only through physical improvements, but also through trust, participation and shared ownership of place.
