This weekend was very emotional. We had a celebration of life memorial for my friend Matt who ascended to the spirit realm on October 5th. I was honored to share some of our collaborative songs and help construct the altar, adorned with plants, crystals, wood, and mushrooms from the property where he lived. The memorial was so beautiful and I’m so impressed with the way everyone come together and chipped in to make it something he would truly be proud of. Sending so much love to his partner and the way she did anything and everything possible to do this celebration in the way that Matt would have wanted. To all the friends and family that I connected with - sending you all love and big hugs in this time as we all process this tragedy.

This is the first time I have ever lost a homie like this, and it has been a whirlwind of cognitive dissonance. As much as I want to believe things happen for reasons and we all get what we deserve in this life, losing a friend at a young age tears away all of these ideas and forces you to look inward. Instead of asking Why this happened, I’m trying to reflect on: What was Matt trying to teach us? What can we do to honor his spirit? What purpose did he have in bringing us all together?

Matt Harman was one of the kindest and funniest souls I will ever have the pleasure of knowing. We met in 2020 and were instantly brothers. He was one of my biggest fans, and gave me so much confidence for music and life. I will always remember him gracefully blending his creative spirit with the way he stewarded the earth, the way he showed up for his children and his partner, and the way he motivated everyone around him.

He built so many bridges and turned so many frowns upside down. I know Matt is still with us, shining down from the other side. May we honor his spirit and remember what it really means to be a ‘hopeful child’
