Thanks Southdown 😊
We are proud to share how 60 decommissioned Chromebooks from Southdown are now creating opportunities for students in Malawi.
Last month, we donated the devices to Cape Maclear Learning and Development (CMLD), a charity supporting young people into secondary and university education. This partnership began through a connection in our Learning Disability Support services and quickly became a meaningful way to give unused equipment a new purpose.
Our Head of IT, Chris Tice, ensured every Chromebook was securely wiped and ready for its new home. CMLD will now use the donation to launch an IT training programme, strengthen digital access for local schools, and support university students.
Early stories from students show just how transformative this access can be, from submitting assignments on time to studying independently during power cuts.
We are honoured to play a small part in expanding digital opportunities for young people in Cape Maclear.

🎄Christmas has come early for CMLD 🎄
From Sussex to Malawi : 60 laptops changing lives !
In November Steve (co-founder) and Kate (trustee) collected 60 chromebooks donated by https://www.southdown.org/. They will be shipped to Malawi in January ready to launch our IT and digital skills training programme later in 2026.
A special thank you to those at Southdown who went above and beyond their day-to-day roles to make this donation happen.
We are deeply grateful to Southdown for giving these laptops a second life. They will create real opportunities for our students and the community of Cape Maclear, Malawi.

We're thrilled to share that one of our sponsored students graduated in November with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology (Credit). Her hard work, dedication, and determination are a powerful reminder of what bright young people from Cape Maclear can achieve when given support and encouragement.

😊 Lots of great progress hapenning on our property this week . Have a look at how things are coming along.
✨️Welcome to our new CMLD property in Cape Maclear.
We're thrilled to share that Cape Maclear Learning and Development (CMLD) has secured a new property in Cape Maclear, a major step forward for expanding education, training, and community opportunities.
🏠 The property includes three buildings.
1. Beachfront house, currently under renovation. This will become our office, volunteer accommodation, and initial training space.
2. Small beachfront building, this will be removed to open the space.
3. Street-side building, our future main community training centre.
💙 We are deeply grateful to Randells Footcare, who are generously covering the annual rent and helping us bring this project to life.
Phase 1 renovations are made possible by the generosity of a donor who wishes to remain anonymous.

Summer School 2025 ✨
Each year, CMLD runs extra lessons during the summer holiday for our students heading into Form 2 and Form 4. This year marks our third summer school, led once again by Collins Jimu, one of our former sponsored students who is now a qualified secondary school teacher in maths and sciences.
We’re so proud to see Collins giving back to the next generation, helping our students learn together and stay motivated for the year ahead.
