President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Honourable Mohamed Ameen as the new Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, following a cabinet reshuffle introduced as part of a wider government restructuring initiative.

The appointment follows the resignation of several cabinet ministers, including Thoriq Ibrahim, reflecting a broader effort to advance policy reform and enhance governance efficiency across key state institutions.

In his new capacity, Honourable Mohamed Ameen will oversee both the tourism sector—widely recognised as the Maldives’ primary economic pillar—and the civil aviation portfolio. This comes at a time when national priorities are increasingly centred on strengthening international connectivity and driving growth in visitor arrivals.

The cabinet changes mark a considered recalibration of the administration’s approach, with greater emphasis placed on sectoral performance, operational efficiency, and closer alignment between tourism and aviation strategies.

Overall, the reshuffle signals a more coordinated and forward-looking framework aimed at reinforcing sustainable national growth and further elevating the Maldives’ position as a leading global destination.
