A thoughtfully crafted 1-bedroom coastal retreat blending passive design principles with vernacular architecture. Natural cross-ventilation, diffused daylighting, and locally sourced materials create a thermally comfortable, low-impact space. The open-plan layout flows onto a traditional Mauritian verandah, framing uninterrupted ocean vistas in a warm, intimate setting.

The Courtyard

A sensorial experience leading home.

A minimalist white facade facing the road with a stone walled entrance leading to a cosy hidden green courtyard placed on the leeward side of the plot.

It is the sensory experience of the courtyard, with a planted landscape, the sound of the gentle breeze of the leaves, and the trickling sound of the water fountain with a different mood of morning and afternoon light, which epitomizes the exterior/interior spaces and completes the client's brief.

The dwelling caters for natural ventilation and is designed to specific elevations due to flood prone areas at Albion.
