The United States speaks Creole too?
Chargé d’Affaires Craig Halbmaier was pleased to meet with native Mauritian Dr. Fabiola Henri and her students from the University at Buffalo (SUNY) and welcome her U.S. funded linguistics research team to Mauritius.
Supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the project brings U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to Creole-speaking communities to conduct field-based research on Creole languages, document linguistic and cultural traditions, and collaborate with local academic and community partners.
During their five-week stay in Mauritius, the team will explore the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of Mauritian Creole while advancing scientific research, educational exchange, and cross-cultural understanding.
The U.S. Embassy is proud to support initiatives that strengthen ties between the United States and Mauritius through research, education, and people-to-people engagement.
