⚠️ Violent winds damage buildings and power lines. Torrential rainfall overwhelms drainage, leading to floods and landslides. Storm surges push seawater inland, accelerating coastal erosion and contaminating freshwater supplies. When mangroves and wetlands are degraded, these impacts intensify.

The consequences extend beyond physical damage: Power outages disrupt health services; flooded sanitation systems increase disease outbreaks; transport failures slow response and recovery.

Climate change, coastal urbanisation and environmental degradation are amplifying these interactions, particularly for coastal communities and Small Island Developing States.

💡 Viewing cyclones through a multi-hazard lens strengthens early warning, preparedness and recovery by revealing where risks connect, and where intervention has the greatest impact.
