The Making of Soap
It started in the early ages of civilization from as early as 6000 B.CE in Sumer or its early name Ashur and about the same time in the Indian Subcontinent, formerly known as Akand Bharat. For Phoenicia, it was 5000 B.CE, Mesopotamia, 4500 B.CE, Egypt some 1000 B.CE.
Everywhere in the above countries, the discovery of soap was at sacrificial or cremation grounds when the resulting ash from wood burning and human and animal fat produced accidentally a soft substance which proved to have cleaning properties. Gradually, the human mind found alternatives to human and animal fat and replaced them with plant and vegetable oils and the use of soap became popular.
It took mankind some 7000 years to invent detergents and other alternatives to soaps as mankind discovered other washing and other needs, sophistication and beauty becoming more popular than merely washing.
