Every year, an estimated 85,000 women and girls are intentionally killed worldwide. More than 51,000 are murdered by intimate partners or family members—meaning a woman or girl is killed by someone close to her every 10 minutes. Millions more survive domestic and sexual violence, often with lifelong physical and psychological trauma. There is no reliable global count of women and girls who go missing, but many disappear as a result of trafficking, conflict, and gender-based violence.
Violence against women is not inevitable. It is preventable. End femicide.
