Come and read poetry this Friday, 17th July, at the University of Malta.

🌿 Join us for another edition of The Voice of Poetry – Open Mic, hosted by Ramona Florina Dospinescu.

This month, we gather outdoors beneath the open sky, surrounded by the warmth of a midsummer evening, to explore the theme “A Midsummer Memory.”

Poetry lovers are invited to share their work or simply listen as words, memories and stories come to life in an ancient Greek-style amphitheatre.

Guests will also be treated to a glass of wine, kindly sponsored by ZVB Wines. 🍷

We look forward to seeing you there.

📚 Book donation 📚

Today, we had the pleasure of accepting the generous donation of “Dental Clinical Procedures Using Artificial Intelligence” by Prof. Arthur R. G. Cortes from the Faculty of Dental Surgery, University of Malta.

Edited and authored during Prof. Cortes' Sabbatical Year at the University of Valencia, this pioneering publication brings together contributions from several members of the Faculty of Dental Surgery team, including Dr Adam Bartolo, Dr Nicholas Busuttil Dougall, Dr Juliana No-Cortes, and former MSc students Dr Laura Althea Cuschieri, Dr Thomas M. Grixti, and Dr Thi Ngoc Trang Tran.

Published by Springer Nature, the book is the first dedicated entirely to the application of Artificial Intelligence in dental clinical procedures. Among its many innovations, it documents the first completely automated dental implant surgery performed by AI robots—an achievement that marks a significant milestone in the evolution of modern dentistry.

The publication has already attracted international attention. Prof. Cortes is currently undertaking a European academic tour, delivering invited lectures in Spain, Portugal, Serbia, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic, and Germany, where he is discussing both the book and emerging guidelines for the use of Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry.

We would like to thank Prof. Cortes for this valuable contribution to our collection and congratulate him and his co-authors on this remarkable achievement.

Melitensia Book of the Month - June 2026

90 Sena Vuċijiet u Identità: Memorji tax-Xandir Pubbliku [90 Years of Voices and Identity: Memories of Public Broadcasting] written by Sergio Grech; published by 4sight.

Illustrated with photographs, this book documents the history and development of public broadcasting in Malta, from the creation of Rediffusion Malta in 1935 to today’s era of digital broadcasting. As both a historical document and a commemorative album, this book explores the evolution of radio and television in Malta; it also includes the experiences of veteran broadcasters and media personalities who shaped the industry, and presents key memories associated with the Public Broadcasting Services (PBS). At the launch in February, the book was described as a tribute to the presenters, journalists, technicians, and many other media professionals whose dedication and work were instrumental in the development of Maltese broadcasting over the last ninety years.
