We are excited to announce our July ✨ CPD Café ✨ at TAASC with special guest Professor Dorothy Newbury-Birch.
On this occasion the CPD Café will take place on Thursday 30th July.
Prof. Newbury-Birch is Professor of Social Justice and Public Policy at the University of Teesside, where she leads the team of researchers and doctoral students TEAMALPHA. An internationally recognised researcher, her work focuses on reducing alcohol-related harm, particularly among young people and within the criminal justice system. She is passionate about translating research into practice through collaboration with practitioners and communities, and has led and contributed to over 150 publications and more than £36 million in funded research.
Prof. Newbury-Birch will present on:
"Why is it so difficult to do research around alcohol and/or drugs?"
Doing research is hard. Explaining difficult concepts to gatekeepers and participants takes time and effort. What do we do when we are not getting the referrals we need? What do we do when people don’t understand what we are doing? This presentation will take the form of a workshop and will use the SIPS alcohol screening and brief intervention trials as an example of just how to do research and what to do when it goes wrong.
