Things I wish I’d known before I started my business in France!

So friends… you may or may not know that I’m based in France (well Martinique to be precise) & since starting my business here 2 years ago I’ve learnt ALOT!

Dreaming of a move to the land of baguettes & champagne (I mean who isn’t?!) or perhaps the Caribbean side 🏝️ ?! Here’s what you need to know…

🥖 You need a particular status to work for yourself. This used to be called being an AutoEntrepreneur, it’s now called being a Microentrepreneur. It’s quite easy to do but you can’t work without it!

🥖 Running your business as a micro entrepreneur is easy (just a simple tax form to do monthly or quarterly) but you can’t write off your costs - defs worth knowing!

🥖 The tax regime is different in the « DOM-TOM » (places like Martinique & Guadeloupe) you pay less & have a higher threshold which is pretty cool, but the cost of living is higher than most of France!

🥖 You need to adhere to GDPR data laws as France is part of the European Union

🥖 Everyone stops working for the whole of August - take a well earned holiday or twiddle your thumbs for a month!

🥖 Coworking & working from home is less common in France where workplaces tend to be more traditional (although like everywhere this is evolving) It makes it well worth having a network of online buddies & colleagues to keep you company!

These 7 things are really crucial components of great homepages - and the good news is they’re pretty easy to implement !

1. A title & tag line that explains the impact of what you do & who it’s for

2. A powerful image that communicates the impact of what you do

3. Clear calls to action - aligned with your website goals

4. Social proof - testimonials, as seen ins, reviews are all good examples

5. What products / services you actually offer (link these directly to where people can buy or enquire)

6. A bit about you. Show your face(s) say hi. Humans connect with humans!

7. A way to get and stay in touch. Ideally a free download or money off voucher that people exchange for their email address so you can stay connected. But at least a newsletter sign up or contact block
