NEBOSH IGC 2026 MAJOR UPDATE (GIC1 / GIC2)

what you need to know

NEBOSH has officially published updates to the International General Certificate (IGC) for 2026. The qualification still has two units, but unit names + the practical (Unit 2) process and marking are changing.

✅ Key dates
• 7 Jan 2026: Update announced
• 2 Feb 2026: Teaching of the revised syllabus begins
• From 4 Mar 2026: First assessments under the new version
• Up to 6 Aug 2026: Final assessments for the 2018 specification (IG1/IG2)

🆕 New unit names (structure stays the same)
• IG1 / NG1 → GIC1 / GNC1 (still a 24-hour scenario-based digital assessment)
• IG2 / NG2 → GIC2 / GNC2 (still a practical risk assessment — but improved submission + marking)

📝 Big changes in the practical (IG2 → GIC2)
• Learner submits directly via the NEBOSH Assessment Platform (same style as Unit 1)
• Deadline: 10 working days after the GIC1/GNC1 assessment
• Marking changes: from “met / not met” ➜ points-based marking
• Pass mark: 60%
• Learners will receive an automatic mark breakdown
• Results: both units released on the same day, 60 working days after the Unit 1 assessment

🎯 What this means for you
• If you’re already on the 2018 specification, you can still complete IG1/IG2 within the transition window (up to August 2026).
• If you start from March 2026 onward, you’ll sit GIC1 + GIC2 under the revised system.
