Medical gas is critical to the function of hospitals and many other healthcare facilities. Knowing the most common types of gases, understanding how each is used, and then maintaining your systems for each gas will ensure your facility's success.

In this article, we discuss five types of medical gas used in hospitals:

Medical Air - Used in the ICU and NICU areas, medical air is supplied by a specific air compressor to patient care areas.
Oxygen - Oxygen is medical gas required in every healthcare setting and is used for resuscitation and inhalation therapy.
Carbon Dioxide - Used for less invasive surgeries
Nitrogen - A medical support gas primarily used for powering surgical tools and other equipment.
Nitrous Oxide - A medical gas is used in numerous surgical procedures as both an anesthetic and analgesic.

Oxygen Generator System Working Principle
Oxygen generator system mainly consists of air compressor, dryer, PSA oxygen generator, and booster compressor.
The air is compressed to working pressure by screw air compressor, and then enters dryer through filter to remove oil, water and dust. Finally enter the air tank to store necessary air for PSA generator. Clean compressed air enters PSA generator to separate oxygen and nitrogen.
Adsorption tower filled with zeolite molecular sieves(ZMS). ZMS adsorb nitrogen and allow oxygen to stream through. Oxygen accumulates on the top of the tower, then enter to oxygen tank. After filtering, oxygen can be directly connected to the hospital oxygen pipeline or enter to booster compressor. After pressurization, oxygen is filled into the cylinder through cylinder filling ramp.
