FIN Myanmar's Pop-Up Play Corner in Mandalay | Shehreen Ahmed 09/04/2025

"If we can have mobile clinics, why can’t we have mobile psychosocial support for children?"

In the aftermath of the recent earthquake, our FIN Myanmar team brought pop-up play corners to a displacement camp in Mandalay—creating moments of joy, emotional safety, and connection for over 150 children. From ball games and storybooks to breathing exercises with soft toys, every activity supported children's well-being in the midst of crisis.

We also trained local youth and handed over play kits to ensure this support continues—led by the community, for the community.

Read the full report on how play can be a powerful tool for psychosocial support, resilience, and recovery in emergencies.

Pop-up Play Corner: Healing Trauma Through Play

In Mandalay, where communities are still reeling from the recent earthquake, FIN Myanmar is responding with a child-centered solution: the Pop-up Play Corner.

This flexible, low-cost, and community-driven toolkit is helping volunteers create safe spaces where children can play, express, and heal.

With storytelling, emotional cards, drawing, singing, and movement games, children are able to regain a sense of normalcy, connect with others, and rebuild emotional resilience.

Anyone with empathy, patience, presence, and playfulness can create a Pop-up Play Corner — under a tree, in a classroom, or on a mat. It's not about fixing everything, it's about being present with love and care.

Prepared by Education Advisor of FIN Myanmar and her team, this guide is now being used to train community volunteers in Mandalay on trauma healing for children.

Because every child deserves a space to feel safe, seen, and supported.
