Spring comes with its promise of renewal and possibility, two ideas essential for the lifelong activist.
We know the reality of despair and burnout in the movement. We also know the animals need us to keep going.
This event will be a short and meaningful time to come together, restore ourselves, and support each other.
Together we will: practice a guided meditation, set advocacy intentions for the coming season, share updates from our latest film, hold space for community kinship and the courage to go on.

“‘No camera! No camera!’ Two slaughterhouse workers shouted at me as they hustled me out of a Halal slaughterhouse in Brooklyn, New York.
As I jogged up the block away from the men ushering me out of the slaughterhouse, my curiosity morphed into one question: why was documenting these holy and sacred methods of killing being met with hostility?“
In our latest story, animal photojournalist traveled to Brooklyn, NY and Istanbul, Türkiye to document halal and kosher slaughter.
She contrasts the end of animal’s lives in slaughter houses against what animals experience in a sanctuary, and reflects on the holiness of sanctified slaughter.
The story was completed as part of our free mentorship program. Take a look at the story at the link in our bio ☝🏻
We’re proud to announce that A Promise of Paradise has been nominated for Best Short Documentary at the 2026 Chandler International Film Festival. This powerful film follows Dan Peterson, a Vietnam veteran and retired construction business owner, through an unexpected ethical reckoning on his Oklahoma ranch.
What began as a retirement project in cattle ranching shifted dramatically after a trip to the slaughterhouse. A moment of connection with the matriarch of his herd sparked something in Dan that he couldn't ignore. And instead of sending more animals to slaughter, he sent them to sanctuaries.
A Promise of Paradise is about going against the grain for the greater good. It’s a film about regret, redemption and the quiet courage it takes to bring about change.
If you’re in Arizona, we’d love for you to join us at the screening this Sunday, January 25 at 12pm, Pollack Cinemas. It’s an incredible honor to be in this festival and to share Dan’s story with new audiences.
